For most businesses, the limp into the festive season has been marred by the second wave of Covid-19 infections. It is mainly brought on by complacency and consumers not taking the virus and its impacts seriously.

For many SME’s the December holiday season should have helped them recoup some of the losses from 2020. Even entertainers, musicians, and Uber Drivers are devastated by the news of more restrictions and lockdown laws.

Follow the rules

The only way that we will be able to get the SA economy working again in some form of normalcy is to remain diligent in following the rules.

The policies and rules don’t always make sense to most people, but looking for the best solution is often the hard-line.

Coastal towns and businesses have had to close again due to the lack of holidaymakers.  Closed beaches in some provinces are affecting everyone from accommodation to restaurants to traders.

While many small business owners are shutting down for a much-needed break, the rest of the country is desperate for some tourist trade.

Bargains Galore

Looking for bargains on accommodation is like being a kid in a candy store. There are so many options available from bush holidays or heading to the mountains for a getaway.

The businesses are making sure they remain open as long as they can and ensure your stay will be as safe and enjoyable as it can be.

Being innovative is a South African trait. Individually packed snacks, plated meals in place of buffets, etc., are becoming the norm, and that is ok.

Even though South Africans are not going to be celebrating into the night for new years eve, there are other options available where you can support your local establishment.  Ordering take-out meals for the evening instead. Tipping your food delivery driver that bit extra goes a long way to getting the country back on its feet.

Support local businesses

If everyone plays their part, the small businesses and individuals can make a big difference in the lives of those around them.

Consider buying vouchers for future holidays, events, and experiences. These have a lasting effect on memories. Forget the usual consumer-driven product that will be forgotten in a month or so.

Supporting local is the way to go. Make an effort to find out who and how you can help your community in this way. Then 2021 will start a little better than 2020 will end.
